Nishiki Sano was born in Denmark 1974, but has Japanese roots. He started to play the piano at the age of 6, and his musical curiosity developed year for year. In 1993 Nishiki received the scholarship for the most talented student at Nørre Gymnnasium (highschool)

In 1999, after having studied music at Copenhagen University, he entered the conductors’ class at The Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen. He finished his studies in 2004 with a debut concert. Nishiki has studied under prof. Dan-Olof Stenlund, Frans Rasmussen and actor Joen Bille, and several other well known conductors.

Since 1996 Nishiki has conducted numerous ensembles, e.g. Akademisk Kor, Korona, Euphrosyne.

During studies in Japan in 2001-2002 he followed the winner of the Malko Conducters’ Competition from 1996, Seikyo Kim in his work, as well as the Japanese conductor Tanaka Nobuaki, both of which made an immense impression on him.

Nishiki has a special love for a capella misic, and keeps striving for the ultimate experience for the audience, e.g. in novel arrangements of old choral music. Being based in both Japan and Denmark, he tries to combine the best from these very different choir tradition.
